CATHRINE WHITE
Founder & Creative Director
Cathrine White is a photographer and visual storyteller whose work is defined by restraint, emotional clarity, and a deep respect for the human experience. Over the course of a decades-long career, she has built a body of work that reflects both intimacy and scale — moving fluidly between private moments and highly visible cultural figures with equal sensitivity and discretion. White's career spans portraiture, editorial work, and long-form visual storytelling.
She has photographed some of the most recognized individuals in entertainment, culture, and public life, earning a reputation for trust and integrity within environments that often demand both. Her ability to navigate these spaces without intrusion has become a defining element of her practice. Her approach to photography is rooted in observation rather than orchestration. She is known for creating space rather than spectacle, allowing her subjects to arrive as they are. This philosophy has shaped a distinctive visual language — one that favors natural light, minimal production, and a quiet, cinematic presence. The result is work that feels both immediate and enduring, grounded in truth rather than performance. Her photographs are less about capturing a moment than about honoring it.
Based in New York, Cathrine continues to develop her practice with the same intentionality that has defined her career — guided by instinct, shaped by experience, and grounded in a profound understanding of what it means to see, and to be seen.
"It's always been about the process, that's where we learn our hardest and greatest lessons"
Beyond her work, Cathrine is a mother of three, a women’s advocate, mentor, and devoted dog lover. She lives in Rye, New York, in a historic 1920s Colonial, where her instinct for beauty and composition extends beyond photography into gardening and landscape design. The house and its surrounding gardens have become another expression of the creative eye that has shaped her life and work.
THE LAUNCH OF AXIS HATS
Cathrine officially launched Axis Hats New York in the spring of 2023, encouraged by her family, friends, and the many people she had gifted her artwork to. The initial inspiration came in 2018, when her son Liam began his college journey.
Her gift lies in her ability to see the world uniquely and create visual value from those perspectives — a curiosity and creative drive that continue to shape her evolving artistic identity. She cares about the projects she takes on, "they are living breathing gifts" she often says.
At its core, Axis is committed to building a community of giving back, and to making a meaningful impact as the brand grows and evolves.
CREATIVE COMMUNITY
"Cathrine has a vision for creative direction and story telling through her work. Some people turn the lens on life and it reflects that view back. Other people have a gift that allows their lens to illuminate the interior of what they see as well as the exterior. Cathrine's work telegraph that inner light. Her work gives a sense of where the subject appears on the spectrum of love, happiness, anxiety, joy, peace and all the other complex human emotions. Cathrine White is one of those talented photographers."
